Says Houston Examiner fashion writer Renae Virata: “Before you banish those fabulous cowboy boots you meant to wear all winter and spring to the back of your closet, consider giving them another chance before the hot summer sets in for good … a sleek pair of Luccheses or Justins will add that funky element to any outfit and get you some good use out of your kickers.”

Frye's Gabrielle T-strap
Of course, Virata is writing from Texas where Western boots are de rigeur. And any number of fashion bloggers have insisted Western boots are out. (More kindly, a contributor to Yahoo Answers recently asserted, “Cowboy boots are always in style-depending on who and how you are wearing them.”) But never mind all that, here’s a proposal that could satisfy both the anti-boot and the year-round Western-wear fanatics: Sandals fashioned by boot companies.

Boutique Boca Thong by Minnetonka
Frye, crafters of iconic Campus and Harness styles, has an extensive sandal roster (52 styles!) ranging from woven huarache flats and stud-embellished gladiators to bright-hued platforms and feminine ankle-strap variations.
Moccasin makers Minnetonka turn out a line of summer-ready slingbacks, thongs and slides, all with Western accents such as turquoise embellishments, braiding and silver coins.

Double H Fashion
Fashion site Get Yourself West named Double H sandals among the season’s best finds. The utilitarian-named “Fashion Sandal” in white leather with cork soles is an unexpected take, but the silver medallion accessory is pure country.

Ember by Ariat
Finally, Ariat, the name behind the cute and colorful Fatbaby line) turns out ruggedly-pretty mules, slides and wedges.
