Stretching With Stella

Every time I see joggers braving the exhaust and pavement in Central Park, and I thank my lucky stars for the Laughing Lotus, where I can practice my downward dog surrounded by candy-colored walls and spiritually enlightened instructors.

In the summer, I’m all about feeling my bare feet on the mat, and digging my toes in the yogic bliss. But come winter, no matter how well heated the studios are, I get cold feet. Literally.

So when a dear, sweet (and well-heeled) friend gifted me these Adhara yoga boots from Stella McCartney for Adidas, I practically wept with joy.

The word Adhara, which means a base or center of spiritual power in Sanskrit, is wildly appropriate for these sturdy-yet-cozy boots. The sole provides enough traction for a Wheel pose, while the synthetic leather (McCartney, a serious animal rights activist, never uses leather) means I don’t have to avoid the glare of the center’s vegans.

I have to admit, these shoes are so comfortable I started wearing them around the house. They’re like ballet slippers and leg warmers all in one, which also appeals to my pre-teen ballet fixation.

It’s probably a good thing they don’t come in purple sparkle, because if they did, I’d be reliving six grade every day.
