If Pink is the New Blog–Satin is Still a Pain

When it first came out on DVD, I watched Uptown Girls on repeat. It wasn’t a particularly great story line, but there were some killer clothes and fabulous shoes. I was also oddly attracted to the main character Molly, played by Brittney Murphy. She never had a care in the world. Her wardrobe was extensive, expensive and 100% enviable. Oddly, enough my favorite part was when her whole world came crashing down and she had to sell off all her amazing shoes.

You must think I am heartless, but really I assure you I am not. I simply want the chance to shop at a garage sale like that. The street sales in Baltimore consist of toilet seat tops (used), half eaten boxes of pizza, and the occasional miscellaneous child. However, last week my friend who happens to work for a great PR company called BrewPR visited her very own “Molly” like friend and grabbed all of her cast offs. Lucky for me, her foot was too large for this pair of satin Christian Lacroix.

I love these shoes—I hate these shoes. They are beautifully made, but lack the durability for a night out on the town. They make my legs look hot, but are absolutely impossible to pair with an outfit. I tried jeans and a simple top, but then the shoes didn’t show. I tried a flashy pencil skirt and sleek button down. It was a bit much.

After tearing apart my entire room, I decided on an all black outfit—simple black shift, black tights, and my beautiful purple satin Christian Lacroix stilettos. I added an element of gold, and viola—perfection. I even found some shoe guard from my Ugg boots that worked great for keeping away pesky stains. Now, if only I could get rid of these nasty blisters. I guess the price of perfection isn’t monetary in this case, or perhaps I just need to try out these beauties that come highly recommended by my fellow blogger! After all the shoe is always more comfortable on the other foot—or however that old saying goes.

Babies (ewww) + Eagles (yeah) = OK!

I am not a baby person. I have a nephew who is two years old that can’t look at me without crying. In fact all babies cry around me—it is a gift. I am the baby of my family, so I guess I never honed those nurturing skills. When faced with the task of holding a baby, I fidget and excuse myself to the restroom. Oh, and don’t get me started on baby showers. Some people take great pride in shower gifts, a la Charlotte in Sex and the City (did you hear the rumor that they are making another movie?!?). I am more of a Samantha—migraine medicine in one hand and wine in the other.

Nevertheless, I think it is time to give this whole “baby” thing another shot. I mean there has to be something to all this ooohhhhing and ahhhhhhing.

Lucky for me I will get a chance to start anew with a brand spanking new nephew named Owen Nicholas this Thanksgiving. And I figured what better way to become acquainted than by introducing him to two of my loves—The Philadelphia Eagles and shoes.

I don’t normally go for the cutesy diaper trees or homemade bonnets, but a Silly Philly is one hoagie I can sink my teeth into. Not only will this new born have the chance to be outfitted in what looks to be the cutest booties to hit the east coast, but he will also be receiving his very first style lesson. After all, style knows no age. Drool or no drool, no nephew of mine will be caught dead in anything less than fantastic.

Fly Eagles Fly. . . .
