Fashion for Paws 2009: lots of well-heeled pups and patrons

20090328-fashion4paws-vp_1189wl1Labradors and Louboutins were all the rage at the Washington Humane Society’s   2009 Fashion for Paws event. Despite the rainy weather, everyone was groomed to perfection, and there was no shortage of fabulous footwear; however, my suede Chloe platforms, may not have been a terribly wise choice considering the weather.

Scouting out shoes amongst the crowd was almost entertainment enough, but the runway show definitely did not disappoint. I noticed lots of ballerina-esque lace-up heels, which I love, but doubt my 5’5″ stature could execute. One look I was especially fond of was by Betsy Johnson: hot pink leopard print socks under a pair of  stilettos. Not gonna lie, part of me really wants to try and pull that one off for a night on the town! This will definitely require some  serious sock shopping (try saying that after several glasses of champagne).

The true stars of the evening, though, were all of the cute pups up for adoption. Not only were they irresistable, they were remarkably well-behaved. As the owner of a 4 month-old Bernese Mountain Dog (Schatze Page) that won’t heel on a good day, I can’t imagine trying to walk her down a runway while I’m in heels! Not to mention, with all of those designer shoes, and all those dogs, I didn’t see a single Choo being chewed!

All in all the event was a great success, raising over $200,000. I think it’s safe to say, though, that by the end of the night everyone’s tootsies were definitely dogged!

Special thanks to Vithaya Photography for the great picture!

eBay Quick Fix: Red Cage Sandals

721541fIt’s Monday. It rained over the weekend. You did your taxes (or felt sufficiently guilty for not doing them). You deserve these. I (or rather, hot eBay boutique, Gotham City Online) bring you new Amanda Smith peep toe sandals with a platform and fabric cage design. At $30, various sizes and two colors (black and red), these heels will set you free.

These Are IT!!!

Gucci hasn’t had an ultra ultra to-die-for superstar shoe for ages. I can’t really think of a Gucci shoe in recent years that was waiting-list/pre-order/push another lady with your same shoe size-worthy practically since Tom Ford was in office. This season (Spring 2009) they totally wowed us with the gorgeous and so fittingly named Iman. The shoe has a number of variations, two heel heights, a t-strap, a three ankle straps and an array of basic and fabulous colors. We have already seen them on Kate Hudson and Anna Kournikova and they were featured in the Gucci Spring advertising campaigns. I guarantee you will see this glorious shoe on plenty more celebs to come. Can’t you imagine these beauties on Mary Kate?

Deliciously Chic: Deliciouz in the SF Bay Area

deliciouzNews flash! Walnut Creek’s Deliciouz has moved to a new location: the space formerly belonging to Hush clothing boutique at 1353 North Main Street. Although this deliciously chic shoe destination is awash in mood-lifting color, the selection is heavy on neutrals: think chocolate, caramel and sweet plum-colored sandals (gold grommets and eye-catching cutouts are the proverbial icing on these treats), licorice-hued boots and sturdy, chunky heels (not a single stiletto exists at this shop). As you may have guessed by the darling name, owner Tamara Vladic curates confections that have the same effect on your brain as tiramisu or a fresh-baked chocolate éclair. European designers are the draw: Think meticulously crafted treats by Chi Mihara, Colleen Cordero, Cynthia Vincent and Sigerson Morrison.

donna-karanAah, the good life. You’ve been dreaming about warm Spring days and hot summer nights for months now, and winter is finally bidding us adieu.

Whether you’re jetting off to an exotic Spring Break destination or ‘staycationing’ at home and playing tourist in the city, the change of the season is the perfect time to stock up on the latest and greatest heels.

Besides, spring doesn’t officially begin until you’ve purchased a beautiful pair of stunning sandals.

Treat yourself to these Donna Karan Incocco Lambskin Sandals and you’ll be reveling in the beauty of spring in no time – no matter where your travels may take you.

These bold, glistening, kitten-heel sandals are designed with a hinged sole accent for extra comfort, and a super-shiny mosaic band. The open-toe design offers plenty of room to show off that pedicure, and the textured lambskin leather upper is sure to make you feel like an Italian princess.

Pair these up with your Grecian goddess gown or show off those legs in for your mini-vacation to the Mediterranean.

I’m Trippin’

For me, in the word of footwear, shoe design is about more than creating beautiful objéts. And as much as the clean classic line of a stiletto or the feel of supple leather signifies quality workmanship and inspired design, innovation is as important. Thankfully for the world of shoe lovers, German design company Trippen has both inspiration and innovation in spades.

Dedicated to quality, all shoes are handcrafted by skilled artisans, and it shows. Trippen designs are available at their three stores in Berlin along with their shops in Cologne, Heidelberg, Japan, Spain, Great Britain, and Taiwan. You can also find their collections in over 400 stores worldwide.

Clear Heels See the Light of Day

I’m not sure exactly when clear heels pulled the reverse Pretty Woman (the transition from Cinderella to strip tease) but celebs have finally taken pity.

Blogger Shoebunny just spotted Claudia Schiffer in clear plexi sandals from Stella McCartney’s Spring 2009 collection. And they look cute. Truly.

Still unsure, I checked out the forum ModelMayhem where many a fun-loving model confessed to a love of barely-there heels.

The final straw⎯ShoeSmitten. She posted a sweet little pair of clear Mootsie Tootsies for summer.

So if you’ve been secretly wondering what it would be like to step out in something very, very see-through, now is the time. I suggest going the less expensive eBay route though, because this trend’s staying power is anything but transparent.
