My feet are moving…to the spa!

I am going off to a spa weekend in about 12 hours, and thus will be wearing my flip flops despite the remaining winter chill.

About a year ago, I was returning from a similar trip, to Miami Beach, and as I was sashaying through the airport, my gorgeous bowed velvet flip flops snapped right in half on my feet.

In the moments after I heard the snap, I looked down at my feet – to see the flip of my flop had flopped. The once-adorable rhinestone-encrusted bow, now hanging, a dismembered limb. I was devastated. They truly had been my very favorite pair of footwear. (Yes, despite being, indeed, flip flops.)

Much like warriors in combat, I didn’t even get a chance to mourn my fallen comrade. I had a plane to catch! Yet…I had to get to the plane on one shoe, with my other footwear all packed in baggage. Thank God I’m a beauty editor.

In a moment of desperation, I removed my scrunchie from my hair, and wrapped it around my shoe, securing it with a loop around my big toe. It was moderately successful – it allowed me to walk and looked ridiculous, but got me onto the plane without having to hop … too much.

Still, even though over six months have passed…I think about those lost shoes constantly, and have been desperate for a way to replace them.

jamiekflatsTruth be told, I have a bit of a fetish for this type of sandals – whether one calls them a thong or whatever else, I have close to two dozen pairs, and even some deigned as “formal” and others as “casual”. I figured, for a fancy spa escape, I should definitely break out the best of them – and turned to NY-based designer Jamie Kreitman’s fabulously adorable footwear. More specifically, I turned to these awesome velvet heirloom wedges at left.

They are super similar to the dearly departed flops of last summer, yet with a a bit of additional bling – perfect for my rock goddess persona. And, knowing they come from a NY fashionista to another NY fashionista…well, that just makes them a little bit more cool. Let’s hope I don’t kill them this time.

Red Hot and Lovin’ It

dsquaredI’m having one of those ‘blah’ weeks with one too many empty spaces on the social calendar and, luckily for me, some extra $$ sitting in the bank from my frugal antics as of late.

Which of course means only one thing; it’s time to browse the shoe aisles and pick up a sweet treat for the feet.

It was with this directive that I discovered these gleaming cherry red DSQUARED2 Piercing Pumps, a bold and fiery pair of Mary Janes-gone-wild -– and I think I’ve fallen in love.

These stiletto pumps are designed with three instep straps and button closures. They’re also polished to perfection in glossy red patent leather, and the 4 1/2” skinny metal stiletto heels alone are worth forking over the dollars for. An almond shaped toe adds even more sassy style to your step…what’s not to love?!

These shoes are on their way to my closet as we speak; if you‘ve been looking for a grey-day pick-me-up, this one definitely makes the cut.

Hollywood Starlet in the Making

marc-by-marc-jacobsThough Oscar season has disappeared into the great abyss, it’s still fun to play Hollywood glam for the night with a sassy ensemble. A brief glance at my social datebook reveals trunk shows, spa ‘happy hours’ and a movie premiere in the oncoming weeks, which only means one thing: a new outfit will be required for each event (read: new shoes).

Since dazzling the crowds is always at the top of the priority list, I’m picking up these Marc by Marc Jacobs chrome kitten heels to kick off the Spring party season in true Hollywood spirit.

These gleaming silver kitten heels are the perfect way to say goodbye to platforms and pumps for the night and give the legs a rest – without giving up on style. Every girl needs at least one pair of flats or kitten heels to survive those long stretches of back-to-back parties. Those gams need a break between stiletto-balancing, after all.

These mini-heels are designed with an elegant pointed toe and a glitzy star embellishment on each side. Perfectly paired with some long tailored pants or some black cropped pants for the season, these will be a winning set for mingling with the crowds sans the usual ridiculously-high heels.
