Pumps and Pearls: Kicking off the 2009 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® in Stilettos!

069A girls night on the town is fun, but when you add pink and green martinis, lovely hors d’oeuvres, FABULOUS door prizes (including a pair of Gucci pumps!), and a parade of shoes to rival most runway shows–now THAT is my idea of a good time!

Monday evening, I ventured about an hour outside Washington, DC to Winchester, VA, to attend the first annual Pumps and Pearls event which was part of the 2009 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival®. Let’s just say the ladies of Winchester definitely gave Washingtoniennes a run for their Manolos!

Held at the historic George Washington Hotel, this sold-out event was something all shoe-lovers will want to go ahead and mark on your calendars for next year. Between the patrons and participants in the “bloom” pump contest, I have never been to an event with so many amazing shoes!  Since the apple blossoms are the feature of the festival, ladies were encouraged to either find or design shoes to represent the festival’s honoree. I was really impressed by some of the shoes these women designed: could Winchester be the new Milan?!

My favorite part of the event? Seeing women of all ages actually have fun with their footwear! Not to mention, it confirmed my belief that you are never too grownup for pink shoes!

For some reason, all of those shoes remind me of the Chiquita Banana.
