Famous Feet

Thanks to the New York Post, we all now know that “Lindsay Lohan wannabes now can dress just like her. The actress is selling off second-hand clothes on her family’s Web site, Up for grabs are a pair of Stella McCartney black leather boots and jackets, jeans, hats and handbags, starting at $25.” (I tried clicking the “Authentic Shop” button but nothing happened. Sigh.)

Less weird, more star studded: Clothes Off Our Back is a 501c3 foundation that hosts charity auctions of celebrity attire. Through Feb. 26 you can bid on a pair of Ruthie Davis shoes that Beyonce wore to fashion week’s “Fashion Rocks” red carpet event, and autographed. Proceeds benefit Feeding America, The Art of Elysium, Hope North and H.E.L.P. Malawi.

Web site Who What Wear talks about the recent 7th on Sale — “Touted as the ‘world’s biggest sample sale’ the event was started in 1990 by the CFDA and Vogue to raise money for services and housing for people living with HIV and AIDS — which includes designer goods and celeb-worn items like “the four-inch Calvin Klein heels Madonna wore to the Vanity Fair Party.” Can’t make it to the 7th on Sale gala? Shop the ebay’s Fashion Vault. (Currently the site is readying for the next designer sale, but interested shoppers can sign up for alerts.)

Across the pond, The Daily Mail reported today that “Stars from Robbie Williams to Boy George have contributed footwear to be sold from the boots of 40 smart cars at Covent Garden in central London. All money raised by the sale, hosted by auction house Christie’s, will go to the HIV and Aids awareness charity, the Terrence Higgins Trust.” Shoes for sale include “a pair of Dr Marten’s boots signed by the cast of EastEnders.”

Botega Veneta t-straps

Charity auctions are great, but if you just want to feel famous and aren’t invited to a fundraiser gala, Celebrity Owned on ebay sells shoes, accessories and apparel previously owned by “Hollywood stars, designers & producers.” Newly arrived: a pair of red and purple Bottega Veneta t-strap heels, size 38.

Rihanna, Jessica and Kate at the Model As Muse Gala!

So I know this is a little delayed but I thought I would mention it since the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala is one of the most major fashion events of the year. Tons and tons of A-List celebrities, your favorite musicians, supermodels, and fashion industry elite including Vogue’s notorious Anna Wintour. This years theme being “Model As Muse” we saw our favorite famous faces align with some our favorite designers and step out in their creations. Usually with major red carpets where the girls wear serious gowns, we don’t get to see too much of the shoes. Not the case at this years Costume Institute Gala! We some daring shoes that wonderfully complemented some fabulous, risk-taking outfits. Some favorites? Kate in gold custom YSL Tribute pumps, Rihanna in sexy sky high Dolce & Gabbana pumps and Jessica Biel in Christian Louboutin peep toes which offset her dress just perfectly!

Interview with a Style Expert: Maridel Reyes

You know when you meet someone you immediately like and then you find out they have a job that is so covetable you want to hate them, but you just can’t?-1 They’re too warm and genuine to inspire that kind of bitterness… Meet Maridel Reyes, an NYC-based freelance writer who covers health for magazines like Glamour and SELF, and regularly reports on fashion events and celebrity parties for New York Magazine. Yeah.

Maridel has been behind the sceniest of scenes and happily agreed to share some of that hard-earned fashion gossip with ShoeTube:

Which celeb were you most psyched to meet and what kind of shoes were they wearing?

I know it’s not shoe-related, but for sheer star power, I was in awe of Bono. I’ve talked to him briefly at two events, and he was very gracious. One interview took place as he was walking to a banquet room to give a speech. The poor guy gets mobbed everywhere–once a few people saw him he was surrounded!

The best celeb shoe-spotting was Madonna in head-to-to LV at the Gucci/Unicef Snowflake Ball Dinner honoring Rihanna.

Have you ever asked a celeb about her shoes?

During Fashion Week, shoes are a huge topic. Especially if a model fell on the runway that day–we’ll ask models about their near-misses and strategies to walk in those crazy shoes. Perry Reeves from Entourage raved about the roll-on blister block from Band-Aid to me at a party. And during last fashion week, I chatted with Molly Sims about her falling up the stairs at the gym (Her tip: use those foot petals so you don’t slip).

Last fall I talked to designers and Project Runway’s Nina Garcia about how they protected their shoes in the sudden downpour of Hurricane Hanna. Nina is quite small, but she’s always wearing incredibly high platform-y shoes. Even in the sticky August heat, she looked great!

Give us your top three go-to shoes for star-studded parties.

I need something I can stand around in (and sometimes run after celebs in) so in the winter, I’ll wear a pair of black round-toe pumps, two-tone (black/grey) patent leather lace-up peep-toe oxfords or if it’s really chilly, flat riding boots.

In the summer, I wear bright shoes (I have a yellow canvas pair with a wooden sole from Target–shh!!) or red kitten heels. This year, I’m retiring a beloved pair of Stella McCartney black patent leather stacked gladiator-style heels with wooden soles.

Give us your dream shoes for the next one.

Well, since we’re shooting for the moon… I saw these Louboutin Mary Jane 120 platforms in person and wanted to DIE.38866_in_dl

I oddly have a soft spot for jelly flats. These are from Tory Burch.39224_in_dl

Costume Institute Gala @ the Met

I was not cool enough to be invited to the Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night.

madonnametStill, that didn’t keep me from browsing the ensuing net footage and being very, very jealous.

NYC socialites like to pretend to be above this, but when we encounter certain legendary divas, we will fall to our knees in a moment of nothing short of supplication. For me, Madonna is that such diva.

Behold her arriving in a dress by Louis Vuitton, but even more importantly, the sexiest tall leather boots ever. Who else wants to join me in stealing THAT look?

Last night’s event was something of an ode to the changing face of the supermodel – a prevalent species in New York City – and from Lauren Hutton to Gisele to Tyra Banks, they were all in attendance.

But among this dazzle of model faces, it is Madonna…and those incredible boots…that can’t get out of my head. Well done, Madge!
