What Would Dorothy Wear?

IMG_0500What would the Kansas farm girl-turned fashion icon wear today? That’s the question Warner Bros. and Swarovski posed to 19 shoe designers you love (I know you love them, don’t doubt me) and one FIDM design contest winner, Kaddie Lam (pictured with her spiral-heel stiletto). The result? Mouthwatering red confections that would make any modern-day Dorothy want to perfect her yellow brick road strut.

A very chic friend I’m now indebted to was kind enough to take on the role of Shoetube.tv field reporter and sent back pics of her favorites; as displayed last night at Tavern on the Green for The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Emerald Gala.

What’s the fate of these gorgeous creations? They’re being auctioned off here until September 29, with the proceeds going to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which works in 17 countries to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS.

So if you’ve got the budget, bid away. If you don’t, just click your heels together… or maybe watch the movie. It won’t bring you ruby slippers, but it will bring you back to your shoe-loving roots.

Moschino platform pumps with an oversized half bow on each toe. So sweet!

Considering Thigh-High Boots

Thigh-high boots are a pretty difficult decision for me.

I love them – a lot. And would like to wear them at regular intervals – but honestly, generally, don’t we sort of see them as a little…er…slutty?

Let’s face it, a lot of us discovered them years ago, when Julia Roberts made the thigh high boot famous – as a LADY OF THE NIGHT in “Pretty Woman.” I mean, I love Julia. And was rooting for her and everything, but she was still a hooker, ya know?

What I’ve learned in my own experience, though, is that these boots are actually very wearable. If you think about it, they give you more coverage, than, say, leggings with your mini – and also, in my case, make your legs look thinner!

So, my rule? I will wear thigh highs – I will just shy away from, say, bright pink zip-up plastic-looking ones. Because THAT would be skanky. Instead, I’m all about choices like these Moschino tall suede boots in dark chocolate brown.

They are fun, and comfortable, and sexy without going too far — exactly what I want from my shoes (and my movies).

No Really, Sassy is In This Season

My recent discovery of these Betty-Boop inspired heels served as the catalyst for upping the sassiness factor; I promptly added ‘patent leather bag’, ‘chic coiff’ and ‘bright red lipstick’ to the shopping list after picking up these too-cute heels, the pair that matched perfectly with my basic black pencil skirt and ruffled white blouse for the office.

I had officially turned into Miss Sassy Pants (in a skirt)…

Wing tips and tassels aren’t usually found adorning a pair of ladylike heels, but ‘tis the season to stretch your boundaries with this uber-chic pair from Moschino.

I had officially turned into Miss Sassy Pants (in a skirt), and enjoyed the extra attention on an otherwise dull and uneventful Friday afternoon. Trotting along to the company cafeteria with the matching handbag in tow garnered me plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, along with gasps coupled with ‘cute shoes!’.

Ah yes, the much needed, always anticipated, outcome of a shoe success story; I’m still relishing that afternoon.

These shoes are a great pick-me-up for the onset of the winter blues, a leather and suede combo that will keep your feet plenty warm and toasty during the cooler days ahead; These beauties are sure to fire up any day with the stylish red and black color combo; 4” heels that are comfortable to wear day or night; what more could you ask for? When you’re not in the mood to be creative with your makeup or jewelry, just pull on these sassy shoes and trot along like it’s nobody’s business (it isn’t).

Go on, do away with your usual Plan B platforms and basic booties this year; stir things up a little, make a bold statement.

Just add this one to the holiday wishlist…or set aside some of that paycheck (the electric bill can wait a few more days, can’t it?).
